• Building a Nieuport 11 replica •
• Introduction •
This website details my progress in designing and building a replica of the First World War Nieuport 11 ('Bebe'/'Baby') fighter.
Having already constructed a timber homebuilt aircraft I wanted another project to occupy my time and provide a challenge. It needed to meet the UK single seat deregulated 'SSDR' criteria, i.e all up weight less than 300kg and stall speed below 35 knots. This keeps costs down and eliminates the need for complex and costly compliance procedures. I also wanted something with character, preferably a replica and a biplane. My preference was to build in wood as I had experience and enjoyed working with this material.
The following pages explain how I selected a design and constructed the final machine.
The original
the original gives a brief outline of the original machine and its service history.
Design
